Glow Up Series – How To Develop Discipline and Patience – Prayer and Fasting
Chapter 1 – Part 1: Prayer and Fasting
Hello Bestie! Welcome to the first part of our glow up series – prayer and fasting.
In the introduction post, I gave you an overview of what you need to do to lay the foundation of how you can transform your life with GOD. Now, let’s dive deeper into the very first step of glow up challenge—prayer and fasting.
Glow up Series – Recap
At the center of this year’s personal transformation, at the core of our glow-up,self improvement and personal development is GOD. We begin with GOD, grow with GOD, and end with HIM.
The main difference between a worldly glow-up and a godly glow-up is that one is outward and self-driven, while the other is inside-out and GOD-driven.
To embark on this transformation journey, you will need to:
- Fast
- Read the Word of God
- Obey His Word
- Align your 2025 goals with His will, not just your desires

As I write this, I feel a wave of emotions because I know how painful it is to be undone, how exhausting growth can be, and how lonely the process sometimes feels. But one thing is certain—God has purposed that there is no reward without labor.
Often, we think “working” means exerting more effort and putting in more hours. But the Bible says:
If you are truly going to accomplish something meaningful, you must understand that there are opposing forces at war against your destiny. You cannot fight these battles intellectually or physically—you need the full armor of God, prayer being at the fore front.
God warns us in His Word:
“In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” — John 16:33
The trials you face are not always meant to take you out but to grow you. However, there are also weapons formed against you—those are the ones meant to take you out. The enemy will oppose any stride you take toward the life God has called you to.
Many people think the enemy will just come and destroy them outright, but he is more subtle than that. He will try to stall you, place obstacles in your way, and delay you.
If he can manage to delay you long enough, he knows he can wear you out. And when you are worn out, you become impatient and start questioning God.
So now that we know there are forces opposing our transformation journey, what do we need to do?
Equipping Ourselves For Spirital Warfare: The Full Armor of God
Let’s look at what Scripture says:
- Verse 16: “Take up the shield of faith.” Faith moves mountains. Ask God to help you believe in Him fully.
- Verse 17: “Take the helmet of salvation.” Salvation is not just about saying a prayer—it’s about transformation.
Many of the difficulties we face are not because of some “great purpose” but because we have not fully understood or embraced the new life we have in Christ.
God doesn’t bless us simply because we do good works. Instead, He sometimes withholds certain things that would hinder our relationship with Him.
If not having a job is what keeps you praying; between the comfort of a job and staying in God’s presence, which do you think is better?
Sometimes, we unknowingly pray for snakes instead of fish because we are short-sighted. We need patience and endurance to wait for God’s promises with joy and expectancy.
